Born in Indiana, USA, writer Katharine Eliska Kimbriel also spent time in Michigan, Ohio, and California before settling in Texas. She has a B.F.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, around 700 hours as a Registered Massage Therapist, and 120 hours training in web design. (Note: The web administrator has gone to a written e-mail address to make things harder for the robots. It's still a real e-mail address--just enter it as you normally would...)

Her obligatory itinerant occupations have included research aide, gold caster, janitor, sales clerk, technical writer, and correspondence school instructor. Once upon a time she was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New SF/Fantasy Writer.

Published novels include the historical dark fantasies NIGHT CALLS and KINDRED RITES from HarperCollins/HarperPrism. They feature Alfreda Golden-tongue, the protagonist of short works "Night Calls" and "Triad." On the Science Fiction side of the business, you will find FIRE SANCTUARY, FIRES OF NUALA, and HIDDEN FIRES (from Warner Books, Inc.) stand-alone science fiction tales which take place on the same planet.

Although these books are currently out of print (OOP) they can be found used at bookstores like DreamHaven Books in Minneapolis, MN and at Adventures in Crime and Space in Austin, TX. Or check to see if you have a local Half Price Books. Be sure to check both the fantasy section and the horror section at HPB--the dark fantasy books have been found in either area.

Her non-fiction credits include articles on writing the perfect synopsis, and on finding an agent. Short fiction has appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, AMAZING!, and such anthologies as ARABESQUES 2, THE BLOOD OF TEN CHIEFS, and WEREWOLVES. She has a new chapbook out from Yard Dog Press called WINGS OF MORNING--it contains "If I Take the WIngs of Morning" and an Alfreda short story called "Ducks."

She is managed by two Burmese and a handful of gargoyles. Her constant hobby is ballroom dancing. Her occasional hobbies include brewing beer, antique roses, wrestling with her Xeriscaped garden, making Ukrainian Easter eggs, and practicing on her Celtic harp Real Soon Now.
